3 days tour around the mighty Abisko national park

“The secret round tour”

On this tour we start in Abisko and then walk within and in the immediate vicinity of Abisko National Park for three days. The trip goes through mountain forests, by rivers and over mountain massifs. If you are short of time but still want to experience the mighty nature then this is a perfect hike to join.

We live in high quality mountain tents and go between 15 and 20 km per day depending on the terrain. Bit by bit we follow the lead and other times we turn off and get more exposed and challenging hikes.

We prepare the food ourselves on gas stoves so we choose lightweight ingredients which are good and have good durability.

During the trip there is usually the opportunity to use the sauna and we try to camp near the huts to lower the environment impact as much as possible. The evening light on these tours is fantastic when at the same time you have the world’s finest mountain views.

Preliminary program

In the afternoon, we meet at Abisko Mountain Station and go through the plan over some coffee, then we distribute equipment and train to pitch the tents and make camp. We live next to the mountain station the first night so there is also the opportunity to supplement the equipment before we leave. We eat a good dinner at the mountain station and rest after the trip to this northern area and make us ready to be out on the mountain the next few days.

Breakfast indoors at the mountain station and then departure. We have some different itineraries and we adapt the tour according to the weather, the lunches we eat outdoors and the tour goes through mountain forest and above the treeline. We follow both trails and old paths and go a little bit off the trail in different types of terrain – this is what is great about the trip. When we find a suitable tent place we eat dinner and socialize in the evening in the lovely evening sun.

There is often the opportunity here to use a enjoy a sauna and you usually sleep very nice in the fresh air.

On the last day we enjoy the morning coffee a bit extra and then head back towards the mountain station. Here you often follow the nice valleys, the rivers and get some stunning last pictures with the camera before we once again arrive at the mountain station in the afternoon.

Difficulty and prerequisites

It is best if you have broken in your boots and tried to walk with them for a couple of hours with a backpack on. We suggest that you use it in your local area on a day trip to test that everything feels like it should.

Good to know

Please write when booking if you are allergic to something or take medication for anything on a regular basis.

Please have a look at your home and travel insurance to see if your insurance covers this activity. We also recommend you have a look at your equipment well in advance so that you have a chance of breaking in new boots and trying out a new backpack in case you need to.

We recommend sturdy hiking boots, preferably with a somewhat higher shaft to protect the ankels. We do not recommend using normal trainers or trail running shoes.

How to get here?

The tour starts and ends in Abisko, Lappland Sweden. To get here we recommend fly to Stockholm and then going on the night train to Abisko. You can also fly to Kiruna and go by bus, train or rent a car. Abisko lies in the north of Sweden, in the middle between Kiruna and Narvik.
